چکیده

In this paper, the relation between small-scale fade depth and channel bandwidth in an indoor environment is investigated. The fade depth, a measure of the signal power variability over a local region in space, is evaluated for narrowband, wideband and ultrawide-band channels. The experimental analysis is based on frequency-domain measurements in the 3.1–10.6 GHz microwave band. Physical insight into the fading process is provided, and the effect of increasing bandwidth and temporal resolution is discussed. A dual-slope empirical model is developed, which accurately describes the relationship between fade depth and channel bandwidth. It is demonstrated that the fade depth, considered at the three standard deviation values, converges to about 4 dB at 1 GHz bandwidth, and a further increase in bandwidth yields only a marginal improvement in fade mitigation.

Fade depth scaling with channel bandwidth

Introduction: Multipath propagation in wireless channels causes random fluctuations in the signal levels, leading to small-scale fading and system outage [1]. Recent research has analysed the impact of channel bandwidth on fading using information theoretic and statistical approaches. For example, an increase in the stochastic degrees of freedom with bandwidth in frequency-selective channels ha...

Design of a Low-Latency Router Based on Virtual Output Queuing and Bypass Channels for Wireless Network-on-Chip

Wireless network-on-chip (WiNoC) is considered as a novel approach for designing future multi-core systems. In WiNoCs, wireless routers (WRs) utilize high-bandwidth wireless links to reduce the transmission delay between the long distance nodes. When the network traffic loads increase, a large number of packets will be sent into the wired and wireless links and can...

Improving Bandwidth-power Efficiency of Homogeneous Wireless Networks Using On-meet Threshold Strategy (RESEARCH NOTE)

Over two decades, a problem of location dependent has been focused for improving the communication Bandwidth-Power Efficiency of homogeneous networks. The efficiencies of communication links are weakened by the Hidden Terminal Problem.  Thus we propose a Fine – Tune Strategy for analyzing the On-Off communication region. We were observed that the proposed technique had been able to track and mo...

Diversity in wireless systems

The main impairment in wireless channels is the fading or random fluctuation of the signal level. This signal fluctuation happens across time, frequency, and space. Diversity techniques provide the receiver with multiple independent looks at the signal to improve reception. Each one of those independent looks is considered a diversity branch. The probability that all diversity branches will fad...
